Cake Class!

Our cake class has been so much fun! Here is my last cake..for this class. I'll (we'll) take another one in a couple months. It's been a blast! I like this one the best of all that I've done..the Chocolate tastes SOOO much better too..maybe I'm just tired of the white cake and butter cream frosting..but maybe not! mmm....chocolate!

Quick and Easy (Maternity) Shirt

This is made from 1 yard of fabric! The fabric is already gathered with the elastic at the top and already hemmed at the bottom, so I just measured myself and sewed a seam up the back. With the little bit left over I made the straps. I'm all about these quick easy crafts!!
You could also use this fabric to make a little girl dress!

Aprons

I have been wanting to make an apron FOREVER! I bought a pattern last summer and it still sits in my closet. Since I started this Cake Class though, I was wanting to get it out and make it so I would have an apron to wear. I didn't, but found an old apron my Great-Grandma made. She was quite the homemaker and seamstress, and lived in aprons from what I hear. I thought the apron she made was so perfect, that I asked my mom if she had the pattern. We ended up making one off one of her old aprons we already had.

Here is one of the aprons my great-grandma made YEARS ago:And here is the one I made! I LOVE it! ..especially that it wraps around and fits over my pregnant belly!! As you can see, I made a couple changes, but for the most part, this pattern is made from just 1 yard of fabric and (besides the hem) 2 seams. I did add a couple pockets and a bottom ruffle though.

Jewelry Kick

Okay, I told myself I wasn't going to get into the jewelry/beading thing because that is a whole nother ball game of supplies and such, but, I have succumbed anyway! I made some things over the weekend while I was with my mom. She has been making jewelry for a while now and let me use a little of her stuff to get started. Anyway, here are a couple things I had fun making. The earrings are just the start to another set I am working on.

Pattern Sale

I've been looking at some patterns for a couple months debating if I should get them because they are about $8-$13 each. Wondering if I could find some patterns online or something for a little cheaper..anyway, my mom and I were at Wal-Mart a couple days ago and they were telling us that they price match pattern sales and that last week the Simplicity Patterns were on sale for $1 each..needless to say, we stocked up on some patterns. Then she told us the McCall's Patterns are on sale this coming week - the 22nd-26th. $0.99 each at Hancock and Wal-Mart will price match! Double check your Wal-Mart, or just go to Hancock if there are any Patterns you have been looking at! Good luck and have fun crafting!

Announcement!!

We're having a GIRL!! WOOHOO!! We're so excited! Jared, of course, has known all along..but I didn't want to say either way in case of getting my hopes up and being wrong. But I have pretty well known for about 2 weeks before the sonogram! Little experiences and feelings. Anyway, we are excited to welcome this little baby girl into our home in another 20 weeks. Seems like forever away..guess I'll have to get sewing and crafting to get ready for her and to keep busy until then!

1st Cake

My friend and I are taking the Jo-Ann's Craft Store - Wilton Cake Decorating Class: Course 1, and it's been a ball so far! Here is my first cake. I didn't know what name to put on it, so of course I used Gideon's. He doesn't turn 2 till next month..and I'm sure I'll be making him another cake! Anyway. Here it is!
I saw one of these Tire Swings (Horse style) when I was living in Virginia and thought it was awesome..I don't know why I was thinking about it, but thought I'd share anyway! Maybe when we have a house with a tree we'll get one..or figure out how to make one from a recycled tire!! There are a few more styles HERE!

I know I posted this last week, but I went to my parent's friend's house over the weekend and they HAD a horse-tire swing..so I had to get a pic of my son on it! He thought it was soo fun!

Chow Mein Bird Nests

I used THIS recipe to make these. I just substituted the 6 C. Rice Crispies to 1 1/2 bags of Chow Mein noodles. You can make it w/o the peanut butter too..just add a little more butter. It's also really good to make the Peanut Butter Rice Crispy treats with chocolate chips in them!

Pot Luck

A new Enrichment Group was started in my ward..each month a bunch of ladies get together and bring some pot luck food item (tonight was appetizers) and we'll do a craft or game or something each month. Tonight we made jewelry. It was really fun! And so easy. Jewelry isn't something I have gotten into yet myself..I think I'll wait a little while longer still because of the space I don't have right now. That is a WHOLE 'nother ball field of things to buy and learn and have stored up! I need a craft room before I get into any MORE projects..I already have my Sewing and Scrapbooking and such.. and I just recently started a cake decorating class with a friend.. so I'll be putting cake pics up soon, but for now, here is some jewelry I made tonight!

Hormones

So, I am feeling..I don't know. I guess a little overwhelmed and bummed and... a mixture of things. Probably it has to do w/my being pregnant, I don't know. I have a few crafts started..but they aren't quite working out the way I am wanting them to. I haven't given up, it is just taking me a little longer to get excited and get them finished! I have a whole list of things to do once I find out if I'm having a boy or girl..so I fell like I am kinda' just in a waiting field right now.

I do want to do some Easter Eggs..hopefully tomorrow! A couple AWESOME ideas from Martha Stewart are the Silk Died Eggs. And I love these Marbleized Eggs and especially the Marbleized Eggs- but I don't know where to get the Methyl Cellulose for those last ones.

Happy Easter everyone! I can't believe it's already here. I am glad for SPRING though!

Herb Garden

Find the perfect container. I liked this one because it it wide at the top so I could fit more plants in it. (-and it was free!) Make sure to get Organic or Vegetable/Garden friendly soil.

Fill the bottom with large rocks to help water filtration so the water doesn't collect in the bottom of the container -especially if there is not a drain hole.

Choose your herbs..make sure they require the same amount of sunlight. Most are part to full sun. Plant your herbs, water them and enjoy some fresh herbs in the weeks and months to come!
