DIY Loft Bed

I finished the bed a couple weeks before Christmas.. but he didn’t get the ladder until Christmas. It was his Christmas gift. :) He got to sleep on it Christmas Eve and loves it!

I’m still figuring out the ladder though.

I made the ladder and it ended up being a couple inches short. I can’t screw it to the bed, or it would be fine, because it needs to be removable, so the baby can’t climb up and fall off the top…and she DOES try :). Actually with me standing near, she has climbed up the whole way all by herself..she’s quite the little dare devil at 16mo.! ..anyway..

I need the ladder to be a couple inches higher so I can put some hooks on it, or I need the bed to be a few inches shorter, which creates a problem with the boards around the bottom..so, I think I’m going to be rebuilding the ladder. In the spring, ..when it’s warmer. Until then, I help him up and down and he’s very careful!

As you can see in the pics, his room is VERY small, THEIR room is small. This loft bed has REALLY opened up the floor space in their room which has really been fantastic for playing in there through the winter, since we can’t go outside as much. We have all loved it!

Loft Bed Still in Progress

IMG_3510

Not done, but closer. So, Gid is voting for ORANGE.. ‘cause it is his FAVORITE color! But I have a lot of Black paint leftover from another project. But if I put a coat of paint..it will be harder to slide the boards in and out to put together, and it’s already quite hard enough..I don’t favor the idea of staining it though.. hmmm..To paint, or not to paint..that is my question! What do YOU think!??!!!

Junior Table!

I found this at one of my recently-found websites that I have been drooling over! Literally..everything I see on there.. I WANT to build! It has gotten me SO excited. SO, with a BEAUTIFUL day I ran to Lowe’s, purchased some wood that they pre-cut to size for me, and came home to build. I had a saw of my own for a couple diagonal cuts that I needed and I am getting a sander next month..so that part will have to wait.

As I said, the boards were all cut to length for me at the store, so I just had to measure and cut a few angles, pre-drill a few holes, and screw it together. I’m going to sand paint and weatherproof it next, but I just couldn’t wait to share!!

He LOVES it, and so do I!! We had lunch on it right after. It’s a little small for me, but I can still sit :)!!

The wood cost just under $20 and the box of screws was about $5. The instructions for the medium size table says 6 2”x4” @8’..but actually you only need 5 if you get it cut right!

Check out this site if you haven’t! I can’t believe it took me so long to find! Well, she has only been at it for 6 months I guess..but it’s AMAZING!!
